Common symptoms of motorcycle spark plug failure include: difficulty starting, jittering at idle speed, reduced power, increased fuel consumption, black smoke coming out of the exhaust pipe, overheating of the engine, sudden shutdown during driving, etc. If these phenomena occur, the spark plugs need to be checked or replaced in time. ‌

Detailed symptom analysis

  • ‌Start difficulty and idle abnormality‌

Damage to the spark plug can lead to insufficient ignition energy, which is manifested as multiple attempts required during startup and even failure to start. ‌
The engine may experience regular jitter ("shuo phenomenon") or automatically shut down when idle, similar to the symptoms of "asthma". ‌

  • ‌Power and combustion efficiency issues‌

The acceleration is weak and the uphill is difficult, and the power is significantly reduced ("like the car is not full"). ‌
Inadequate fuel combustion leads to increased fuel consumption, fired from the exhaust pipe or black smoke (a manifestation of imbalanced gas mixture ratio). ‌

  • ‌Engine operating status abnormal

The engine overheating may cause a poor combustion process due to the failure of the spark plug. ‌
The fire suddenly breaks or stops during driving, especially when accelerating. ‌

  • ‌Spark plug physical damage‌

If the electrode is found to be melted, carbon deposits severely (black marks or cracks), or the insulator is ablated (snow white/cyan), they must be replaced immediately. ‌
