The preheating plug is essentially an electric heating wire. Before starting a diesel engine (especially in cold weather), power on the preheating plug, and its tip will quickly heat up to an extremely high temperature (up to 850°C-1000°C or more).

Its function is not to ignite directly, but to preheat the air in the combustion chamber. Diesel ignites the injected fuel by compressing the high-temperature air at the end of the stroke. When the vehicle is cold, the temperature inside the cylinder is insufficient, making it difficult to reliably ignite diesel.

The preheating plug ensures the reliability of cold start by raising the local temperature of the ignition point in the combustion chamber to guarantee the smooth self-ignition of diesel after injection.

More advanced materials: The preheating plugs of large industrial diesel engines or engines that often operate in extremely cold environments may use materials such as silicon carbide or metal ceramics, which can withstand higher temperatures and thermal stresses.

Higher pressure: It needs to withstand the higher compression ratio and burst pressure of large diesel engines.

The control system is more complex: Industrial systems may have phased preheating functions (preheating before startup and post-heating after startup) to reduce white smoke emissions and ensure a smooth startup.
